slip and fall compensation Claim

There are several factors that can increase the risk of people falling, mainly old age and an underlying medical condition. As we get older our mobility decreases and we may be dependent on assistance from equipment or people to mobilise and move safely. Medical condition which cause high states of confusion can also increase the chances of falling because the individual concerned may not perceive the dangers around them.

There are a number of things that care home staff should do to minimise the risk of a resident falling:-

  • Proper and full risk assessments;
  • Provision of special equipment such as pressure sensitive mattresses or crash mats. Bedrails are also an option but these bring with them their own risks much must be assessed before bedrails are used;
  • Adaptations to resident's beds such as lowering them;
  • Ensuring that areas that are off limits to residents are properly secured. For example, keeping doors locked.

When the above measures are not taken people in care homes can fall and suffer injuries. slips trips and falls claims aim to provide compensation for the pain, suffering and loss of amenity caused by an avoidable fall.
